This K frame revolver was Smith & Wesson's bread and butter gun and was produced in the millions. the number you are seeing on the inside of the frame is an assembly number used during manufacture to keep the frame and cylinder crane pieces mated. Just above that number, there is what appears to be the letter "R". The cylinder drops out to the left, and on the cylinder face it has a small "S" and then a little over from that the number 127XXX. The serial number on the butt of the gun is 77J953 Any help sure would be appreciated,,,thanks.As with the other 44, they were officially known as a model NT-430 but became the model 29 when S&W began stamping model numbers around serial number S184000.
