Dec 14, 2021 · The zoo was a nice interlude on our recent family vacation. We spent one morning walking through and it was really enjoyable. It was raining a little but that wasn't a detractor. Some of the animals weren't out and about but that was ok too. It was a relaxing and enjoyable morning. The zoo is free and a great part of the St. Louis landscape. Reviewed July 7, 2013. We were there when it opened - I know that animals are normally more active early in the day. Several enclosures were empty. The later it got the more crowded it was. There aren't enough signs to make it easy to navigate - even with the park map.
